The Magnolia Hotel was excellent. The staff I spoke with had good English and were very helpful and polite. The standard twin that I had was spacious and clean, and western loo's, for those who would like to know. The hotel is in a great location, alongside West Street, for shopping, arranging all your travel and day trip needs and...
bars! West street is very much alive in the evening, and if you need a peaceful night for an early rise, you may struggle. I was not bothered by this. but you will pleased to know that The Magnolia Hotel is installing sound-proofing measures, plus there is also a curfew on the bars.

Excellent location, right in the middle of town, walking distance from everything in town. Prices were double because it was a holiday, but still a good value. Pure Lotus next door is some of the best food I've had in China. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Wish the staff had a bit better English proficiency... Hard at times to communicate everything that we needed.

Before my departure, I had called up the hotel from Malaysia for some information and was pleasantly surprised the lady who took the call spoke good English! Yes, this lady (the manager, Ms Jasmine) does speak good English. The staff were polite and helpful. Complaints were always attended to immediately. It is within walking distance to the West Street Shopping Area. The receptionist even walked us to the tour agency office where I had earlier booked a tour to the Silver Cave through the Yangshuo Mangolia Hotel. I could have booked the same tour from either one of the tour agencies just across the road from the hotel, but because of their excellent service, my friend and I felt we should book the tour through them.
Lighting in the toilet is too dim. And there is no refrigerator in the room.

The staff is very friendly and helpful, rooms quite big and well equiped, comfortable and clean.
The only weak point is the terrible noise coming from the surroundings till 1 am. If you plan to go out for a drink, this hotel is perfect for you and very close to bars.
